WHAT IS face transplant?
Face transplant is a skin transplant process to replace the facial skin of patients with donor skin or the patient’s family skin. Face transplant is intended for those who experience skin damage due to fire, disease, trauma or birth defects.
The process of transplantation:
1.The patients who face have been destroyed will be replaced with the donor’s skin.
2. the donors face will be mounted to the patient’s face.
The donor can be from relatives patient, a close relative, or friend though. Generally done by the donor who had died, but if the donor was still alive, does not reduce the possibility of a donor’s face.
3.the doctor will install/restore muscle function of teeth, nose, eyes, ears, face and lips for the installation went smoothly and the donor’s face can be used for the patient.
Firs Face Transplant in US.
A young father whose face was totally damaged due to electrical accidents, Dallas Wiens, is the first face transplant patient in total in the United States.
In my honest opinion, this is a great achievement for the United States. Because this is the first full face transplant in this country.
“I can never express what they have done and what they have given me,” Wiens said during a press conference with team doctors Birgham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.
Wiens was accidentally set fire to his face in November 2008 after his head was accidentally knocked the power cord. High voltage electricity is damaging the nose, lips and made him blind.
He lost his left eye in the accident. Wiens get his new face of the donor. Original facial bones and muscles will eventually form a network that he obtained from these donors.
Well, this achievement will be useful for our next generation. It looks better than previous face transplant in India although it can’t compare because this one is 100% face transplant. Take a loot his picture before and after face transplant below.
