Apple is facing some serious questions about how precisely and exactly why its mobile products gather users’ spot data. Yet it’s certainly not the first time the company has dealt with interrogation by lawmakers over its practices associated with that sort of information.
On April 21, U. S. Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass. ) and Senator Al Franken (D-Minn. ) let go off letters to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, asking for clarification upon news that this iPhone and also 3G-enabled iPad running iOS 4 have been saving location records to a hidden database document.

Apple hasn’t yet officially responded, but it’s not really the first time the Cupertino, Calif. -based technology giant has run smack in to lawmakers’ inquiries about it’s location files. Around June 2010, Edward Markey, together with U. S. Rep. Joe L. Barton (R-Texas) sent Apple a letter demanding information on it’s practice of collecting, keeping and sharing the location of users’ mobile devices.
The actual congressmen was apparently motivated with a change in Apple’s iTunes level of privacy policy, that had been revised to permit the sharing of location information using software providers—if customers opted in to the providers’ position expert services.
Apple responded at the time although it’s cellular devices and also Mac computers did gather location information, they managed so anonymously with batches, just before encrypting and also sending the information to Apple’s servers just about every 12 hours.
